Grace Cunha of Carteret High School was named the 2015-16 Greater Middlesex Conference Athletic Director of the Year. Grace was named interim AD at Carteret in 2003 while still teaching a full schedule. She began as a business teacher at Carteret and also taught Cooperative and Special Education. Grace also coached Varsity Softball, Varsity Football Cheering, and Varsity Basketball Cheering for over 30 years.
Currently, serves as the district’s high and middle school Athletic Director and Supervisor of Health and PE. She is the conference sports co-chairperson for Field Hockey and Cheerleading. She has been a GMC Executive Board Committee Member for 12 years serving as an appointed vice-president for the Blue Division and served on numerous GMC seeding committees.
Grace was named the Softball Division Coach of the Year multiple times, GMC Coach of the Year for softball in 1994 and 2008 and the Star Ledger Coach of the Year in 2008 along with her brother Nick Scheno. The two led their teams to five sectional titles and multiple division titles and ended their careers with 456 wins. She was inducted into the Carteret High School Hall of Fame in 2004 along with Nick and the 2004 Varsity Softball Team who were Central Jersey Group II Champs that year.
Grace is a graduate of Montclair University and went on to receive her Masters from Kean University.
