The Kansas City Royals selected former Monroe High School baseball star Nick Dini in the 14th round of Major League Baseball’s first-year player draft. The right-handed throwing and batting Dini earned third-team Louisville Slugger NCAA Division I All-America honors last month after setting Wagner College’s career record with 245 hits. He caught and played second base for the Falcons , batted .392 with 44 RBI and 26 extra-base hits while earning Northeast Conference Player of the Year honors. He also is the school’s all-time leader in at-bats (793), games played (215) and games started (215). He likely will be assigned to Kansas City’s short season Class A affiliate in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
