Every Monday or Tuesday the conference will recognize a group of students from its member schools for their accomplishments from the week prior. For May 6-12, the following athletes are named the GMC Athletes of the Week:
Alyssa Andrejic from South River: Alyssa is batting .500 in May with six RBI’s, four doubles and two stolen bases. For the season, the centerfielder leads the Rams in RBI’s and hits batting .481 with 26 hits, 26 runs scored, 22 RBI’s, 14 doubles, one triple and eight stolen bases. Alyssa is an outstanding student and also a member of the tennis and basketball teams.
Lauren Cram from East Brunswick: Lauren is a four-year starter for the Bears playing leftfield. She is also the team’s leadoff hitter. She is hitting .450 with 18 runs scored, nine stolen bases. She is a leader who provides intangibles that put the underclassmen at ease. The AD at EB, Frank Noppenberger, had this to say about Lauren, “she is a fierce competitior that exemplifies that softball is a game that requires team play. She is a great teammate.”
Shelby Haggerty from Perth Amboy Tech: Shelby has been the lead off hitter and shortstop for Perth Amboy Tech for the last two years. She is batting .442 with an on-base percentage of .559. She has 31 runs scored and 30 bases stolen. Shelby went 4-4 with two doubles in her last game leading the Patriots to their 10th win.
