The Old Bridge High School boys’ cross-country team is gearing up for the Greater Middlesex Conference (GMC) championships Oct. 24 at Thompson Park in Jamesburg.
A year ago, the Knights finished second to South Brunswick High School, and the Vikings are likely to be a contender again. However, Old Bridge is coming off of a stellar performance in the GMC Red Division meet at Thompson Park Sept. 21, where the Knights finished 28 points ahead of South Brunswick.
Coach Rich Gebaurer’s team took seven of the top 10 spots in the Red Division meet, led by Rey Rivera, who crossed the line in a personal best 16:23 to take first place. Rivera, a junior who won the GMC 800-meter crown in the spring, overtook the Vikings Ryan Budhu down the stretch to win the race. Gerard D’Ambrosio was third in 16:26, Gerard Gill took fourth place with a time of 16:33, and Sean Hobson finished fifth in 16:37.
