When it comes to soccer, Monroe Township High School’s boys team has always ranked among the best in the Greater Middlesex Conference (GMC).
It’s about time the girls team receives its due since it is enjoying one of the program’s best seasons. Following a 1-0 victory Oct. 6 over perennial power East Brunswick High School (6-3 division, 7-5 overall), Monroe (8-0-1 division, 8-3-2 overall) clinched the Red Division regular-season championship.
The next hurdle is winning the conference tournament that begins in two weeks — something Monroe has never done. In fact, the Falcons have been to a GMC Tournament final only once (1983), and that ended in a 3-0 loss to East Brunswick.
