Before last year, the South Brunswick High School varsity softball team had never won a Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament title.
Now, the second-seeded and No. 20 in the NJ.com Top 20 Vikings (18-2) are back-to-back champions with a 7-4, nine-inning comeback victory Saturday afternoon over top-seeded and No. 14 South Plainfield at Middlesex County College in Edison. South Brunswick also beat the Tigers, 6-4, in 11 innings in 2016.
South Brunswick became the first school to win back-to-back crowns since Bishop Ahr won in 2000-01.
