There are student-athletes, and then there are scholar-athletes. Cassie Lubonski is a shining example of the latter.
The junior on the New Jersey City University women’s soccer team was named Academic All-District 2 for Division III, making her eligible to become an Academic All-American.
After transferring from Ramapo following her freshman year, the former Edison High School standout posted a perfect grade point average of 4.0 both semesters as a sophomore at NJCU. And she did it while managing a triple-major in elementary education, special education and history. Her cumulative GPA is 3.98.
Lubonski also took part in several community service initiatives, including Read Across America. On the field, she started as a defender and filled in as the Gothic Knights’ No. 2 goalkeeper. As a keeper, she allowed just one goal while making eight saves in 155 minutes.
“Balancing school and athletics for the past three years has involved sweat, tremendous sacrifice, and the support of my family,” Lubonski said. “All-nighters, summer classes, and an intense independent study, combined with hours on the field as both a goalkeeper and a field player has molded me into a strong, well-rounded individual.”
