Elizabeth Girvan – Highland Park: Elizabeth had four goals and six assists last week. The junior now has 11 goals and 13 assists this fall to help the Owls off to an 8-0 start on the season.
Dylan Boynton – Highland Park: Dylan had 105 yards on nine carries and a touchdown last week on top of 168 yards on 12 carries and a TD from the week before. The senior also had nine tackles and a fumble recovery in the Owl’s win last week at Dunellen.
Charles Lovett – South Plainfield: Charles plays quarterback/cornerback for the Tigers football team. This past week he had 19 rushes for 110 yards and one touchdown. On defense, he had five tackles. For the season he has run the ball 38 times racking up 291 yards at a clip of 7.8 per carry. He has brought the ball into the end zone for South Plainfield five times. In addition, he has 11 competitions in 20 attempts for 88 yards in the air.
Claire Nagel – South Plainfield: Claire is a forward on the Tigers soccer team. Last week she had four goals and three assists. For the season, she has netted nine goals and connected with one of her teammates for five others.
Suraj Chandran – Wardlaw-Hartridge: Despite never having run a cross country race before this season, Suraj’s hard work has helped him become one of the leaders of the team. In the Newark Academy Invitational, despite intense heat and humidity, Suraj finished 9th overall in the 5K race with a time of 19:24. Just four days later, he led the team in their home opener by finishing 3rd overall in a dual meet against South River with a time of 19:31.
Antonella Doglio – Wardlaw-Hartridge: During a week in which the Rams battled through consecutive 2-1 OT road losses to Blue Division opponents, before challenging defending GMC Tournament Champions South Brunswick (a 4-2 loss), Antonella was a constant force in the midfield. Against South Plainfield, she assisted Mia Reyes’ goal. At South Brunswick, she recorded a goal and an assist: Antonella struck a 30 yard blast for the Rams’ first goal just before halftime, following up with a perfect cross from a corner kick that Priya Golding headed into the net.
Alijah Vanterpool – Woodbridge Academy: The junior goalkeeper has been a consistent standout on the Woodbridge Academy soccer team week after week. With 64 saves on the season, Alijah leads the GMC Gold Division, and is in the top 20 in the state. He has been the center point of the defense with strong communication, making multiple game savings plays. He has also stopped two penalty kicks this season and continues to get better each week.
